Ohio Health Risk Pool Program

Recent news on Ohio Health Reform is the announcement that Medical Mutual of Ohio will administer the Ohio “Temporary High Risk Pool Program.”  This risk pool will receive roughly $152,000,000 from the federally based Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.  These funds are intended to help provide uninsured Ohioans who have pre-existing conditions the opportunity to purchase more affordable health insurance.

In Medical Mutual’s proposal to be the non-profit provider for this entity, the company estimates the program may ultimately insure as many as 5000 Ohioans during the plan’s duration.  The goal is to provide premium rates that are near standard rates for those participating.  No Ohio funds are used in order to provide this program.
