Wellness and Prevention Programs
Wellness programs may include wellness and prevention programs maintained and or delivered by a health care provider, a wellness and prevention plan manager, a wellness or prevention services organization that engages in and conducts ongoing health risk assessments; either face-to-face, by telephone, or web-based interventions for each program participant. Such plans may include wellness and prevention efforts, such as;
- Smoking cessation
- Weight management
- Stress management
- Physical fitness
- Nutrition
- Heart disease prevention
- Healthy lifestyle support
- Diabetes prevention (pp 33, lines 7-16).
Less than 2 years after the Act is enacted, the Secretary shall create regulations including criteria for deciding on a reimbursement schedule (pp 33, 17 – 21).
No later than six months after these regulations are “promulgated” above, the GAO will review the regulations and study (and submit to the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions of the Senate and the Committee on Energy and Commerce of the House of Representatives a report on what impact these activities have on the cost and the quality of health care (pp 33, lines22 -25, pp 34, lines 1 – 5).
